Science and Health

The Christ, divine Science, is the spiritual idea of God, which governs the universe and demonstrates the power of good over error.
— Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, pg. 321

Thought

You’ve most likely heard about Jesus Christ in the Bible. Scholarship tells us that Jesus was a historical person. The Bible tells us about his teachings and miracles that he performed, eventually resulting in His crucifixion and resurrection. In the Bible, Jesus is referred to by the title of Christ - meaning “anointed one” - signifying an elevated status. In Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy describes Christ as something like a spiritual current. Jesus expressed Christ, hence the title, as He taught and worked, and Christian Science says that we can do the same today. We can be like Jesus as we live in Christ.

Living in Christ sounds like a big, religious commitment, but it’s actually a very quiet, daily experience. Christ is simply the voice of Truth that speaks to us in the middle of the noise. It’s the gentle nudge that tells us everything is okay when things look messy.

You don't have to white-knuckle your way through life. There is a spiritual idea — a quiet current of Good — that is already governing the universe and your place in it. Living in Christ is just about learning to float in that current. It means trusting that God’s power is actually bigger than your errors or worries. When you align with this Truth, you stop performing and start simply being guided.
